Lake Texoma Permit Guide For Texas And Oklahoma Anglers

Navigating the licensing requirements for a lake that straddles two states can be confusing, but ensuring you are legal is the first step toward a stress-free day on the water. Because Texoma Striper Adventures operates on both the Texas and Oklahoma sides of the lake, having the correct permit is essential for targeting our famous striped bass and catfish.

The Lake Texoma Fishing License (Type 208)

The most convenient and highly recommended option for our guests is the Lake Texoma Fishing License (Type 208). This special license allows you to fish the entire body of water in both Texas and Oklahoma without needing separate state-specific freshwater licenses.

  • Cost: $12.00
  • Validity: Valid through December 31 of the year it is purchased.
  • Scope: Valid only on Lake Texoma (does not include the waters below the Denison Dam).

Who Needs a License?

Licensing requirements are based on your age and residency status. Please review the categories below to see which applies to you:

1. YOUTH (Resident or Non-Resident)

  • Age: Under 16 (Oklahoma) / Under 17 (Texas)
  • License Needed: EXEMPT (No license required)

2. TEXAS RESIDENTS

  • Age: 17 to 64 years old
  • License Needed: Lake Texoma License (Type 208) OR a valid Texas Freshwater License.
  • Note: The Type 208 ($12) is recommended as it allows you to fish the entire lake in both states.

3. OKLAHOMA RESIDENTS

  • Age: 16 to 64 years old
  • License Needed: Lake Texoma License (Type 208) OR a valid Oklahoma Freshwater License.
  • Note: If you only have an OK license, you must stay on the Oklahoma side of the lake.

4. SENIORS (Texas Residents)

  • Age: 65 years and older
  • License Needed: EXEMPT. Texas residents 65+ do not need a license to fish the entire lake (both Texas and Oklahoma waters).

5. SENIORS (Oklahoma Residents)

  • Age: 65 years and older
  • License Needed: EXEMPT. Due to the reciprocal agreement, Oklahoma residents 65+ can fish the entire lake (both states) without a Lake Texoma license.
  • Note: Ensure you carry your Senior Citizen Lifetime License or a valid ID.

Important Notes for Travelers:

  • Type 208 Cost: $12.00 (Valid until December 31st).
  • Reciprocal Rule: Seniors (65+) from either state can fish the whole lake for free with a valid ID.
  • The "Dam" Rule: These exemptions and the Type 208 license are NOT valid for fishing below the Denison Dam in the Red River; specific state licenses are required there.

Where to Purchase Your License

We recommend securing your license at least 24 hours before your scheduled departure at 6:00 AM or 2:30 PM. You can obtain them through the following convenient methods:

  1. Online (Recommended): Purchase and print instantly through the Texas Parks & Wildlife or Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation websites.
  2. Mobile App: Use the "Go Outdoors Oklahoma" or "TXOutdoor" apps to keep a digital copy on your phone.
  3. In-Person: Visit local retailers in Kingston or Durant, including Walmart, Academy Sports, or various bait shops near the north side docks.

Important Reminders for Your Trip

  • Carry Your License: You must have a physical or digital copy of your license on your person during the entire trip.
  • Conservation Support: Your license fees go directly toward fish stocking and habitat restoration, ensuring that Lake Texoma remains a world-class destination for generations to come.
  • Expert Assistance: If you are unsure which license fits your specific situation, Captain Charles Stanley is happy to provide guidance during your booking process to ensure you are fully prepared to get lines in the water.

Essential Licenses and Lake Texoma Experiences

Before you cast your first line near the Denison Dam, take a moment to browse through the vibrant moments captured on our recent outings. This gallery showcases the reward of being properly licensed and prepared, featuring high-resolution images of massive, shimmering striped bass and the powerful blue catfish that make our region a premier destination. You’ll see the Texoma Striper Adventures 25-foot Shearwater cutting through the morning mist in Kingston, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Red River valley. These photos highlight the transition from the calm, silver waters of dawn to the high-energy action of a successful haul, giving you a front-row seat to the local scenery and the diverse wildlife that calls this lake home.

Beyond the boat, our collection includes the cozy lakeside cabins and scenic overlooks that define the Kingston area, offering a glimpse into the full experience of a southern Oklahoma getaway. You will see the smiling faces of families during our kid-friendly fishing trips, the intricate details of our specialized gear, and the stunning, fiery sunsets that cap off a productive day on the lake.
